Continuing Education

Liberal Arts is a university access programme designed to prepare learners to engage confidently with semester one of a degree programme in the areas of Arts and Social Sciences. Many of our students come on the course because they want to go to university, but are unsure what exactly they would like to take a degree in. Others join us because they want to improve their academic skills and confidence. Some simply want a year to think, reflect and mature.

We offer a range of academic and skills-based modules in a supportive environment. A characteristic feature of the programme is out-of-class trips such as to the theatre or cinema, and we have plenty of guest speakers. Each year at the end of January we offer a four day trip to Berlin where we explore much of what that great city has to offer by day and by night.

Aim
• To provide learners with an opportunity to successfully progress to higher education

Objectives
• To facilitate learners to acquire a broad range of knowledge in a number of academic disciplines.
• To explore, with the learner, a range of skills in academic research and enquiry.
• To develop learner competence in the pursuit of independent learning.
