This one-year programme is an access course to Higher Education. The modules studied are suited to those who wish to progress to degree level courses in Arts and Social Sciences. There are no socio-economic entry criteria for this university access course.

Entry

Academic: Minimum 5 passes in the Leaving Certificate with a higher grade ‘C’ in one subject or equivalent qualification. LCA with Distinction may qualify with appropriate references.

  • Candidates are required to submit a written Personal Statement (200-300 words) in which they discuss their reasons for applying for this programme, before interview.

Features of the course

  • Students study eight modules and aim to achieve a minimum of five Distinctions and three Passes to compete for reserved course places in Higher Education.
  • One-to-one career guidance and mentoring.
  • Students are expected to learn to take responsibility for their won learning within the managed environment of the programme.

Higher Education

Students compete for reserved places in Higher Education through progression routes for students holding FETAC Awards.
Sample Progression Routes in 2011 for students (under 23 years) holding one of a range of awards including: Liberal Arts ELAXX:

  • UCD DN500 (Arts) 25 reserved FETAC places. 
  • NUI Maynooth MH101 (Arts) 25 reserved FETAC places.
  • St. Pat’s Drumcondra PD103 (Arts, Humanities) 5 reserved FETAC places. 
  • IADT DL241 (English Media and Culture Studies) 60 overall places on Pilot Scheme on their points.
  • DCU Contemporary culture and Society 50 overall places on course 

Information on the number of places reserved is available from each University/IT upon request. Note: Examples listed refer to reserved places available nationally for applicants presenting FETAC qualifications.
