Counselling - Professional Studies

 
The course has been developed to meet the training needs of voluntary and community organisations and to offer training in counselling to a wide range of people. The course models and teaches a person-centred approach to counselling. This course is recognised by the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy – IACP.

• Selected components of the course are accredited by FETAC at
Levels 5 & 6.
• Liberties College Diploma in Counselling.

Entry

Application is limited to mature students with an established interest in and commitment to counselling, supported by suitable academic ability. Students must be 23 years old or over on 1st January of the year of entry. Application should be supported by curriculum vitae and details of experience. Preference will ordinarily be given to applicants holding at the time of application, a Liberties College Counselling Skills- Foundation Studies Certificate or Certificate in Counselling Skills awarded by NUI Maynooth or equivalent.. Courses 17 & 18 may lead to equivalent qualifications.
Two-Year Cyclical Intake This course is run on the basis of a two-year cyclical intake. Courses begin in September 2011 and September 2013.

Features of the course

• A broad theoretical background to counselling is offered. The
major emphasis is on person-centred theory and practice.
• Participants should:
- be able to reflect on life’s experience and apply
this to their work
- be ready to meet the demands of a full-time
intensive counselling course
- preferably, have access to a client base
- be aware of the cost involved regarding: personal counselling,
group work, supervision.
