Credit Framework (QCF).
FETAC Level 6 in Supervision in Childcare (DCXXX)
Entry
Applicants should ordinarily have achieved or expect to achieve one C3 (Higher Level) in any subject plus 5 passes in the Leaving Certificate at Ordinary Level, one of which should be English, or have completed LCA with Distinction. Mature applicants who lack the ordinary entry requirements are welcome to apply. Applicants should have a workplace standard of written and spoken English.

Supervisory, Managerial and Ownership positions in the Childcare Sector, which includes public, private and community care, following experience gained post-qualification.

Principal Areas of Study
CACHE Mandatory Units – there will be 11 mandatory units which will include the following:
- Promote equality and inclusion in health, social care or children’s and young people’s setting
- Principles for implementing duty of care in health, social care orchildren’s and young people’s settings.
(Modules offered may be subject to change and will be based on resources and the new Common Awards System).
CACHE Pathway Units – following the Early Learning and Children’s Pathway there will be five additional units for completion which will include.
- Professional practice in Early Years Settings
- Supporting children’s speech, language and communication
- Selection of optional units
Features of the course
- Students will pursue a course of study which includes a selection of FETAC Level 5 modules in the first year alongside a selection of CACHE units. They will also complete Occupational First Aid and Manual Handling Courses.
- The second year of the programme will cover all Level 6 modules and the completion of CACHE Diploma, including a certificate in Primary Food Hygene.
- There is a quota of practical hours training in the workplace over the two years with supervision by practising professionals.
